Hey All!
This is a very short and sweet vROps tip today, its something that is very easy but not that well known, This is how to change the collection interval of a vROps solution or “adapter” Previously in 5.x you had to do some file editing, now we can just change it.
This blog post came about from both being emailed a couple of time about how to change it but also from working with a client running the vROps Management Pack for vRealize Automation. This was like all default collections, data being collected every 5 minutes.
The client noticed the SQL database server backing the vRA service was getting time out errors in the vRA logs and on further investigation I was noticing every 5 minutes the SQL server was maxing out at 100% CPU usage. So while this wasn’t an immediate issue increasing collection once an hour would limit the issues but still collect data until the cause could be found out or it was purely just lack of resource on the SQL server.
1) Start out by logging into vROps and navigate to the admin section and select Environment Overview. Locate MP for vRealize Automation Instance (or the plugin that needs to be changed, Select the instance, This collection can be set per instance.
2) Click the Edit icon (Pencil), within here you can see the collection interval change this to the desired collection in minutes and click ok.
that is it nice and simple.
until next time
Cheers
*update
in 6.1 environment overview is now Inventory Explorer and collection can be changed per object not just at the adapter level under advanced settings
